In vitro growth characteristics of human odontogenic keratocysts and dentigerous cysts

Abstract: Ode M, In vitro growth eharaeteristics of htiman odontogenic keratocysts and dentigetous cysts. J Oral Pathol 1986: 15: 143-145, Using an in vitro system, the growth characteristics and enzyme histoehemieal properties of 3 odontogenic ketatocysts and 3 dentigerous cysts were studied. It was found that the epithelial cells of the keratoeysts but not of the dentigetous eysts grew in vitro. Furthermote, the epithelial-like cells of the keratocysts showed the satne activities of acid phosphatase and NADH-diaph… Show more

“…KCOT has a high growth potential, similar to that of AM (37). Since cancer cells show dysregulation of p73, with increased synthesis of the ΔNp73 isoform (38), this may explain the high levels found in this tumor.…”

“…21,22 OKC are character ized by aggressive and destructive behavior with a marked propensity to recur. 24 In humans, the presence of the cytomegalovirus is a common feature of OKC walls; however, the relationship to cyst pathogenesis is unknown. 40 Increasing evidence supports the theory that OKC develop ment may be genetically programmed.…”

“…[8][9][10][11][12]21,22 A recent study indicated that DC are the most prevalent odontogenic cyst in dogs. 21,22,24 The pathogenesis is uncertain; however, trauma is thought to be the main etiologic factor. 21,22,24 The pathogenesis is uncertain; however, trauma is thought to be the main etiologic factor.…”
