In Vitro Evaluation of the Antioxidant Activity and Wound Healing Properties of Jaboticaba (Plinia peruviana) Fruit Peel Hydroalcoholic Extract

Abstract: Jaboticaba is a fruit from a native tree to Brazil, Plinia peruviana. Jaboticaba peels are an important source of antioxidant molecules such as phenolic compounds. This study aimed to evaluate in vitro the activity of a hydroalcoholic extract of jaboticaba fruit peels (HEJFP) in wound healing processes and antioxidant activity in murine fibroblasts (L929 cell line). HEJFP concentrations (0.5, 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, and 200 µg/mL) were tested in MTT assay and cell proliferation was verified at 100 µg/mL after 2… Show more

“…Nevertheless, there was no obvious effect on cell proliferation of HC/VitC mixtures at 1:1 and 1:2. Plinia peruviana extract having antioxidative activities was reported to demonstrate the potential for stimulation of L929 cell proliferation and wound healing properties (Pitz et al ., ). Plinia peruviana extract having antioxidative activities was reported to demonstrate the potential for stimulation of L929 cell proliferation and wound healing properties (Pitz et al, 2016). Liu et al (2014) found that collagen peptides could promote osteoblast proliferation by inducing cell cycle arrest in G2/S phase (DNA synthesis) performed by flow cytometry scanning.…”

“…The scratch assay is an imitative form that stimulates a wound in-vitro and evaluates the cell migration rate. When the cell monolayer is disrupted cell-cell interactions disappear and the secretion of growth factors and cytokines is increased at the wound edge, initiating migration and proliferation of cells [16]. Interestingly, none of the extracts were able to promote cell proliferation at concentrations of 250 µg/mL to 2000 µg/mL over a 24 h period.…”
