In situelectrostatic assembly of CdS nanoparticles onto aligned multiwalled carbon nanotubes in aqueous solution

Abstract: A simple method is described for the electrostatic assembly of CdS nanoparticles onto oxidized aligned multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) in aqueous solution. The method is convenient to control and allows the formation of a stable, water-soluble suspension of CdS/aligned-MWCNT heterostructures. The prepared CdS/aligned-MWCNT heterostructures are characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution TEM (HRTEM), energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS), x-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fouri… Show more

“…Nevertheless, the RGO containing a low content of oxygen-hydrophilic groups allows the hybrid material to be dispersed easily in water to a certain extent, which is required for the photocatalytic reaction [33]. To the best of our knowledge, so far, there are few investigations about the effect of the RGO on the degradation of organic pollution for CdS under VL irradiation, although there exist some reports on that a few carbon nanotube/CdS hybrid materials as photocatalysts have been used for photodegradation of organic pollution [1,34] as well as the photocatalytic H 2 production [35][36][37][38][39].…”

“…3 e), revealing the interactions between the carboxylate group on TGA-CdSe and the pyridine ring of the AO molecules on the CNTs. The interaction between the CNTs and the QDs can be ascribed to the electrostatic interaction between the positively charged AO moieties and the carboxylate groups [ 29 ]. Because the AO molecule has a pK b of 7.2, the AO/CNTs should show positive surface charge under slightly acidic conditions.…”

“…Zhao et al achieved CNT/CdS hybridization by employing a thermal decomposition method of TAA as a sulphideion source [35]. Optical properties of MWCNT/CdS hybrid material had been studied by Cai et al [36] and several other researchers [37][38][39]. A simple wet chemical process has been adopted to obtain MWCNT/CdS hybrid structure in the present work.…”
