Heamonchus Contortusinfection in Sheep and Goats: alterations in haematological, biochemical, immunological, trace element and oxidative stress markers

Abstract: Haemonchus contortus (H. contortus) is one of the most pathogenic gastrointestinal nematodes of sheep and goats. The present study was aimed to investigate the impact of H.contortus natural infection in sheep and goats. The haematological, biochemical, immunological and oxidative stress markers were estimated. Blood samples were collected from clinically infected animals for analysis. Abomasum examination was performed after slaughter the animals to confirm the presence of H.contortus adult worm. Parasitologic… Show more

“…A similar increase in MCV was reported for Creole goats infected with H. contortus fed four diets with different contents of protein and energy [ 44 ]. Clinical signs of haemonchosis such as anemia have been correlated with clinicopathological and parasitological findings and are helpful for detecting and diagnosing H. contortus infections in sheep and goats [ 47 ].…”

“…DNA or of antibodies against Anaplasma species. The analysis was hampered by the presence of selenium deficiency and endoparasitism, and both diseases influence hematological and biochemical values [ 42 , 43 , 44 ]. Nevertheless, it is still worth discussing the major findings.…”

“…Selenium deficiency and/or endoparasitism were diagnosed in all flocks and might concur to the ill thriftiness [ 82 , 83 ]. Both diseases are regularly diagnosed in sheep flocks [ 83 , 84 , 85 ] and have an impact on hematological and biochemical values [ 42 , 43 , 44 ]. Reticulocytes were not determined, and thrombocytopenia was not confirmed by examination of blood smears due to operational reasons.…”
