Bacillus subtilis strain BS06 protects soybean roots from Fusarium oxysporum infection

Abstract: Soybean, as a major oil crop, is one of the most widely planted crops in the world. Fusarium oxysporum causes soybean root rot, leading to great economic losses to soybean planting every year globally. Chemical fungicide for controlling soybean F. oxysporum diseases may cause environmental problems and have human health risks. Biological control methods avoid these shortcomings, however, few studies have focused on biocontrol of soybean diseases caused by F. oxysporum. Aiming at this problem, we obtained bioco… Show more

“…7,8 B. subtilis BS06 isolated from soybean rhizosphere can be used to effectively control F. oxysporum (FO) and significantly reduce FO infection of soybean roots. 9 In recent years, the biological control of FO was accomplished with new strains of Bacillus and enhanced control mechanism. Bacillus bm02 isolated from tomato rhizosphere significantly reduced the severity of tomato Fusarium wilt, which released many bioactive compounds such as phenylacetic acid (PAA) and methylphenylacetic acid (MPA) with inhibitory effects on plant pathogens such as FO.…”

“…have been used to control rice blast in the field [ 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 ]. Among microbial candidates used for biocontrol, Bacillus species are most attractive because they can produce spores, and a series of bioactive compounds allow them to survive in adverse environmental conditions [ 6 , 7 , 8 ]. Moreover, Bacillus species have many functions, which include promotion of plant growth and stress resistance, improvement in soil fertility, and remediation of contaminated soil [ 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 ].…”

“…Root diseases were often accompanied with a decrease in chlorophyll content of leaves ( Fujimoto et al., 2021 ; Jia et al., 2021 ), which indicated the reduction of plant photosynthesis and external stresses ( Monteoliva et al., 2021 ). In addition, the contents of antioxidant enzymes in leaves are also affected by root diseases ( Harrach et al., 2013 ).…”
