Arabidopsis RUP2 represses UVR8-mediated flowering in noninductive photoperiods

Abstract: Plants have evolved complex photoreceptor-controlled mechanisms to sense and respond to seasonal changes in day length. This ability allows plants to optimally time the transition from vegetative growth to flowering. UV-B is an important part intrinsic to sunlight; however, whether and how it affects photoperiodic flowering has remained elusive. Here, we report that, in the presence of UV-B, genetic mutation of REPRESSOR OF UV-B PHOTOMOR-PHOGENESIS 2 (RUP2) renders the facultative long day plant Arabidopsis th… Show more

“…Arabidopsis total RNA was isolated with Plant RNeasy kit (Qiagen, https://www.qiagen.com/) and treated with DNaseI according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Complementary DNA synthesis and quantitative real‐time PCR using PowerUp SYBR Green Master Mix reagents and a QuantStudio 5 real‐time PCR system (Thermo Fisher Scientific, https://www.thermofisher.com/) were performed as previously described (Arongaus et al , ). Gene‐specific primers used for XTR7 , YUC8 , IAA19 , IAA29 , RUP2 , HY5 and PP2A (reference gene) are listed in Table S4.…”

“…There are several reports where FT expression was not detected under SD (Corbesier et al ., ; Jang et al ., , ; Sawa and Kay, ; Hiraoka et al ., ; Liu et al ., ) and others where FT expression was observed even under SD (Yanovsky and Kay, ; Imaizumi et al ., ; Takada and Goto, ; Balasubramanian et al ., ; Salazar et al ., ; Arongaus et al ., ). Because our explanation of the co phenotype requires FT activity under SD, we explored this issue in further detail.…”
