ANGPTL2 expression in gastric cancer tissues and cells and its biological behavior

Abstract: AIMTo explore expression of angiopoietin-like protein 2 (ANGPTL2) and its effect on biological behavior such as proliferation and invasiveness in gastric cancer.METHODSWestern blotting was used to detect expression of ANGPTL2 in 60 human normal gastric tissues, 60 human gastric cancer tissues and gastric cell lines including GES-1, N87, SGC7901, BGC823 and PAMC82. 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) and Transwell assay were used to detect the proliferation and invasive ability of… Show more

“…ANGPTL2 expression has been correlated with the frequency of carcinogenesis in chemically-induced skin squamous-cell carcinoma of mice [20]. Furthermore, ANGPTL2 has been shown to promote the genesis and development of pulmonary cancer cells [14] as well as gastric cancer by accelerating the incidence and progression of disease [18]. All these studies agree with our finding.…”

“…ANGPTL2 is abundantly secreted by adipose tissue. It correlated to the degree of adiposity and inflammation [18]. In addition, abnormal expression of ANGPTL2 in various malignant tumors suggested the involvement of ANGPTL2 in cancer cell proliferation, metastasis and invasion [15, 17, 20, 25, 26].…”

“…Likewise EC, the serum levels ANGPTL2 in gastric cancer patients were higher than those of healthy controls [ 99 ]. Analogue results derived from another study, where ANGPTL2 knockdown inhibited gastric cell proliferation, invasion and migration [ 100 ]. On the other hand, ANGPTL2 was overexpressed in gastric cancer tissues and a further upregulation was associated with tumor progression, early recurrence and poor prognosis [ 101 ].…”

“…AKAP12 is usually inactivated in patients with GC and several other types of cancer, serves a role in regulating cytokinesis progression and functions as a tumor suppressor (45). The expression of ANGPTL2 is associated with GC progression, and the overexpression of ANGPTL2 at both the invasive margin and tumor center is an independent marker of prognosis in patients with GC (46,47). Elevated expression of cytoplasmic ANGPTL2 has been associated with invasion, metastasis and unfavorable survival in patients with GC, and thus ANGPTL2 may be used as a promising indicator for predicting postoperative recurrence of GC (48).…”
