Hyperspectral Image-Based Night-Time Vehicle Light Detection Using Spectral Normalization and Distance Mapper for Intelligent Headlight Control

Abstract: This paper proposes a vehicle light detection method using a hyperspectral camera instead of a Charge-Coupled Device (CCD) or Complementary metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (CMOS) camera for adaptive car headlamp control. To apply Intelligent Headlight Control (IHC), the vehicle headlights need to be detected. Headlights are comprised from a variety of lighting sources, such as Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs), High-intensity discharge (HID), and halogen lamps. In addition, rear lamps are made of LED and halogen lamp. Th… Show more

“…Another aspect is estimation of the distance between vehicles using algorithms for detecting vehicle lights at night and normalizing the angle of their lighting [20]. Subsequent systems are also based on the omnidirectional monitoring of the area around the vehicle [21], which is extremely important on car roads, but not always effective for other applications.…”

“…Classify through this angle. SAM kernel is widely used in hyperspectral imaging because it can quickly measure and classify the similarity of spectral angles [27][28][29][30]. The equation of SAM is shown in (3).…”

“…In the case of light sources, the same CCT can be implemented in various ways, and metamerism can be affected accordingly. In particular, the use of a spectral camera can be a method to analyze the characteristics of light sources by wavelength band, and there is a case of using a hyperspectral camera in the image recognition field to distinguish between the street lights and the headlights of vehicles [31].…”
