Antwort der Autoren zu den Anmerkungen zum Beitrag: Reservoir von Pseuodomonas aeruginosa auf Intensivstationen aus dem Bundesgesundheitsblatt vom März 2009 Leserbriefe Unsere Aussagen zum Vorkommen von Pseudomonas aeruginosa im Leitungswasser auf Intensivstationen beruhen auf den Ergebnissen prospektiver, teils jahrelanger Studien auf Intensivstationen in verschiedenen Ländern Europas. In 5 von 15 untersuchten Intensivstationen (33%) waren mehr als 40% aller prospektiv entnommenen Leitungswasserproben P.-aeruginosa-positiv, mit teilweise sehr hohen Keimzahlen. In 3 weiteren Intensivstationen war der Erreger in etwa 10% aller entnommenen Proben nachweisbar. Nur auf einer Intensivstation war das Problem vernachlässigbar gering (siehe Tabelle 1 unserer Arbeit). Dass eine P.-aeruginosaBesiedlung von Wasserauslässen somit ein durchaus relevantes, aber ein bisher unterschätztes Problem im Intensivbereich darstellt, wird aufgrund dieser Daten niemand abstreiten können. Die Leserbriefschreiber haben recht, wenn sie ausführen, dass genotypische Nicht-Unterscheidbarkeit noch keine Kausalität beweist. In mehreren von uns zitierten Studien wurden jedoch Wasserproben gesammelt, bevor die Patienten auf die Station gelangten. Hierdurch ließ sich zweifelsfrei belegen, dass die entsprechenden identischen Klone bereits im Wassersystem nachweisbar waren, bevor sich der Patient damit infizierte.
