Hydroxyl‐Rich Polycation Brushed Multifunctional Rare‐Earth‐Gold Core–Shell Nanorods for Versatile Therapy Platforms

Abstract: It is of great significance to develop a multifunctional imaging-guided therapeutic platform with ideal resolution and sensitivity. Notably, rare-earth (RE) nanoparticles are attractive candidates for multimodal imaging due to their unique optical and magnetic properties. In this work, a rational design of hierarchical nanohybrids employing RE-Au hetero-nanostructures is proposed. 1D RE nanorods are adopted as the core to facilitate cellular internalization with the coating of gold nanoshells for photothermal … Show more

“…Xu and Zhao et al integrated virtues of 1D RE NRs (Gd 2 O 3 :Yb 3+ , Er 3+ ) for cellular internalization and CT/MR/UCL imaging, Au nanoshells for PTT and PA/CT imaging, and PGEAs for impressive gene transfection in one hetero-nanostructure (Figure 13). [68] RE-Au core-shell nanorods were obtained by growing gold nanoshells in situ on the surface of RE@SO 2. Owing to the interactions of Au and disulfide bonds, disulfide-linked PGEAs were grafted onto the surface of RE-Au nanoparticles.…”

“…As one of the most appealing strategies, PTT through the conversion of nearinfrared (NIR) light into heat possesses the advantage of negligible damage to normal cells [5][6][7] . NIR light-absorbing plasmonic nanoparticles have been successfully employed for effective PTT, and most of these nanoparticles exploit passive targeting by the enhanced permeation and retention (EPR) effect [8][9][10][11] . Surface ligands for active cell targeting could further facilitate the preferential accumulation of nanomaterials [12][13][14] .…”
