“…X-ray diffraction patterns of the basic bentonite suspension and bentonite-HEC mixtures reveal that the interlamellar space (d 001 = 12.36 Å) increases slightly to 12.72, 13.47, 14.00, 13.96 and 13.67 Å when adding a (HEC) concentration of 0.02, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15 and 0.2 wt% to the basic bentonite suspension, respectively. The obtained results can be explained as follows: the increase in (d 001 ) for HEC concentrations (≤ 0.1 wt%) is attributed to the intercalation of polymer chains onto the clay cavities, which is enabled by the presence of polar groups in HEC [2]. The intercalate polymer amount is reduced at HEC concentrations of 0.15 and 0.2 wt%, which can be attributed to foam creation, i.e.…”

“…Abouzeid et al conducted a study which demonstrated that combining sodium alginate, a natural and biodegradable polymer matrix, with activated charcoal, renowned for its exceptional adsorption properties of methylene blue dye [31]. Alekseeva et al [32] synthesized and studied the chemical, and magnetic properties of the hydroxyethyl cellulose/bentonite/magnetite nanocomposite. Moreover, the authors studied the optical, mechanical, and antifungal activity of hydroxyethyl cellulose/bentonite/magnetite films.…”

“…Bentonite type layered silicate clays, due to their high specific surface area and cation-exchange ability, low cost and non-toxicity are often used as fillers for cellulose ethers during the preparation of polymer composites. The literature provides information on the structure and properties of composites based on polysaccharides modified with silicates (Alekseeva et al 2017a , b , 2019b ; Delhom et al 2010 ; Lavorgna et al 2014 ). Special attention is paid in the publications to the practical application of such composites as biodegradable packaging materials, materials for tissue engineering.…”
