Hydrothermally Synthesized TiO2Nanoparticles as a Cathode Catalyst Material in Lithium-Oxygen Batteries

Abstract: TiO 2 nanoparticles (NPs) with a diameter of 100 nm were synthesized by a simple hydrothermal route at 220 o C and then processed for a possible alternate cathode catalyst material in the lithium-oxygen batteries. It was found that when TiO 2 nanoparticles were utilized as cathodes, substantial improvements in the discharge capacity, cycle ability, rate capability and low overpotential were observed. This can be attributed to its high catalytic activity and large surface area.

“…Owing to these numerous advantages, TiO 2 is utilized in Liion batteries, solar cells, fuel cells and many other applications. Nevertheless, TiO 2 has rarely been used as a catalyst in Li-O 2 batteries, and only a few efforts have been reported, using anatase phase TiO 2 [19]. To the best of our knowledge, amorphous TiO 2 has not yet been reported as a catalyst for Li-O 2 batteries.…”
