The calculated total and partial densities of states indicate that the top of valance band is built upon O-2p states with P-3p states via σ (P-O) interactions, and the conduction bands mostly originate from Yb-5d states.Lanthanide monophosphates (LnPO 4 ) were extensively used as host materials producing luminescent materials such as fluorescent lamp, lighting phosphor, optical amplifiers and lasers based on their optical, magnetism and electrical properties, high quantum efficiency and stability at high temperature [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8].
