In recent years, with the fine exploration of carbonate reservoirs in the Qixia Formation, central Sichuan Basin, researchers have made important oil and gas discoveries in the dolomite reservoirs. However, the characteristics, genesis and controlling factors of dolomite reservoirs in the Qixia Formation in this area are still unclear. In this paper, the petrology, pore structures, physical properties and geochemical characteristics of the dolomite reservoirs in the Permian Qixia Formation in the central Sichuan Basin have been systematically studied based on a large number of cores, thin sections, physical property and geochemical tests. Furthermore, the genesis and main controlling factors of dolomite reservoirs are clarified. The study shows that the dolomites have the characteristics of small single-layer thickness and multi-layer development, and they are usually interbeded with the limestones. The reservoir types are mainly fine crystal and fine medium crystal dolomite, and the reservoir spaces include intercrystalline pores and dissolution pores (or caves). Moreover, the reservoir physical properties are characterized by medium porosity and medium to high permeability. Quasi-syngenetic dolomitization is the main origin of dolomite in the target layer, and the dolomite was slightly modified by hydrothermal solution at the end of the Maokou Formation period. The development of dolomite reservoirs in the Qixia Formation in the study area is affected by palaeogeomorphology, sedimentation and diagenesis. The granular shoal facies developed in the high parts of the paleogeomorphology provides the material basis for the formation of dolomite reservoirs. The high frequency sequence interface controls the development of dolomite reservoirs in the highstand systems tract. In addition, the quasi-syngenetic dissolution promots the development of the early secondary pores and provids an effective channel for the migration of the diagenetic fluids in the later stage. In the direction of orthogonal horizontal deposition, the dolomites have the characteristics of thin monolayer thickness, multiple sequences and are interbedded with limestone. The dolomite shoals in the study area are distributed as clumps in the plane, which has great potential for hydrocarbon exploration.

3D Quantitative Characterization of Fractures and Cavities in Digital Outcrop Texture Model Based on Lidar

The combination of lidar and digital photography provides a new technology for creating a high-resolution 3D digital outcrop model. The digital outcrop model can accurately and conveniently depict the surface 3D properties of an outcrop profile, making up for the shortcomings of traditional outcrop research techniques. However, the advent of digital outcrop poses additional challenges to the 3D spatial analysis of virtual outcrop models, particularly in the interpretation of geological characteristics. In this study, the detailed workflow of automated interpretation of geological characteristics of fractures and cavities on a 3D digital outcrop texture model is described. Firstly, advanced automatic image analysis technology is used to detect the 2D contour of the fractures and cavities in the picture. Then, to obtain an accurate representation of the 3D structure of the fractures and cavities on the digital outcrop model, a projection method for converting 2D coordinates to 3D space based on geometric transformations such as affine transformation and linear interpolation is proposed. Quantitative data on the size, shape, and distribution of geological features are calculated using this information. Finally, a novel and comprehensive automated 3D quantitative characterization technique for fractures and cavities on the 3D digital outcrop texture model is developed. The proposed technology has been applied to the 3D mapping and quantitative characterization of fractures and cavities on the outcrop profile for the Dengying Formation (second member), providing a foundation for profile reservoir appraisal in the research region. Furthermore, this approach may be extended to the 3D characterization and analysis of any point, line, and surface objects derived from outcrop photos, hence increasing the application value of the 3D digital outcrop model.

The high‐quality hydrocarbon source rocks developed in the Longtan Formation of the Qijiang area and the good reservoir capacity of the overlying dolomite of the Jialingjiang Formation indicate that the area has great exploration potential. To clarify the hydrocarbon migration and accumulation characteristics of the area, the fluid potential of the Longtan Formation in the Qijiang area in the Early Jurassic was determined. The direction of the maximum negative gradient of the fluid potential indicates the direction of the primary migration of hydrocarbons, and the structural ridge theory is used to analyse the direction of the secondary migration of hydrocarbons. The results show that the fluid potential of the hydrocarbon source rocks of the Longtan Formation in the Early Jurassic is characterized by the alternate distribution of high potential zones and low‐potential zones. The central syncline, eastern syncline and western syncline are drainage zones and high potential zones, while the Shiyougou structural belt and Fo'er Ya structural belt are supply zones and low‐potential zones. The oil and gas fluids migrate from the east–west direction to the anticlinal zone for the primary migration; the structural ridge controls the secondary migration of oil and gas in the low‐potential area along the north–south direction, resulting in a zonal distribution of oil and gas traps along the structural ridge. By combining fluid potential and structural ridge characteristics to determine the dominant direction of primary and secondary hydrocarbon migration, a model of hydrocarbon migration and accumulation in the Qijiang area is developed, which provides an important basis for finding hydrocarbon reservoirs.
