Hydrophobic and hydrophilic effects on water structuring and adhesion in denture adhesives

Abstract: Denture adhesives are designed to be moisture-sensitive through the inclusion of a blend of polymer salts with varying degrees of water-sensitivity. This enables the adhesive to mix with saliva in vivo and activate its high tack, through the formation of a mucilaginous layer. We report for the first time, the use of differential scanning calorimetry to study a series of hydrophobic and hydrophilic polymeric systems in order to correlate water-structuring behavior with adhesion strength. Adhesive bonding of the… Show more

“…Это не позволяет врачу быть уверенным в правильности выполнения технологических этапов бондинга [28]. Следовательно, при использовании систем для техники тотального травления сохраняется многоэтапность и сложность технологии, что приводит к гиперчувствительности и развитию осложнений, уменьшению прочности прикрепления к дентину, разгерметизации краевой щели [30][31][32].…”

“…In contrast, PAA demonstrates a relatively high adhesion strength of 0.4 ± 0.1 MPa, facilitated by interfacial hydrogen bonding. [36] The lap shear adhesion strengths of CNC-PAA and CNC-PEI are also much higher on the PET substrate than the best previously reported adhesion strengths for mussel-inspired adhesives (0.3 MPa, poly(N-methacryloyl-3,4-dihydroxyl-L-phenylalanine-co-sulfobetaine methacrylate-co-2-nitro-1,3benzene dimethanol dimethacrylate) [35] ), laminated adhesives (0.2 MPa, graphene oxide), [37] and denture adhesives (0.01 MPa, poly(methylvinylether-maleic acid)/poly(butylvinylether-maleic acid)) [38] (Figure 3d and Table S1, Supporting Information).…”

“…The butt joint form was used in order to effectively eliminate any vertical sheer 'friction' load from the test results. After cooling, the dog bones were suspended by their top end with the butt bonded central region positioned 13 in the centre of a three-turn solenoidal inductor and a 25 g weight was hung from the bottom end (Figure 5).…”
