Co‐Assembly of Biosynthetic Chiral Nematic Adhesive Materials with Dynamic Polarized Luminescence

Abstract: There is currently an extensive demand for simple and effective synthetic methods to allow the design and fabrication of robust and flexible chiral materials that can generate strong and switchable circularly polarized luminescence (CPL). Herein, biosynthetic light‐emitting adhesive materials based upon chiral nematic cellulose nanocrystal–polyelectrolyte complexes with universal high adhesion on both hydrophilic and hydrophobic substrates are reported. Strong and dynamic photoluminescence with highly asymmetr… Show more

“…Counterfeit products also undermine the intellectual property law and will not only cause significant economic losses and social problems but also severely threaten human health (e.g., fake medicine, harmful food). Based on this, a variety of anticounterfeiting technologies, such as bar codes, , holograms, , fluorescent anticounterfeiting, and radio frequency identification tags, are emerging one after another. More and more anticounterfeiting materials have been developed to prevent counterfeit products from emerging and entering the market.…”

“…It is further confirmed by the presence of the positive peak at the circular dichroism measurement (Figure 2d). 47,48 The UV−vis spectra of CNC, CNC/PEG, and CNC/PEG/NaCl at different RH show a systematic shift in photonic bandgap (Figure 2e−g). The composite CNC/PEG/NaCl layer shows an evident color change from blue (Figure 2e), to yellowish (Figure 2f) and to reddish as RH increases from 25−92% (Figure 2g).…”

“…Kim et al fabricated highly adhesive soft materials from CNCs, PAA, and europium (Eu), exhibiting strong and tunable CPL. [182] The CNC-PAA-Eu film was completely quenched after swelling in acetone due to the chemically induced dissociation/disruption of the coordination bonds between Eu 3+ and the carboxylate groups in the potassium hydrogen phthalate ligand. Interestingly, when spraying water, the g lum of the film increased from −0.08 to −0.46.…”
