Hydrophilic Treatment of the Dyed Nylon-6 Fabric using High-density and Extensible Antenna-coupling Microwave Plasma System

Abstract: High density and well surface-distributed oxygen microwave plasma with an extensible antenna-coupling design was utilized to modify a densely weaved and large-surface-area Nylon-6 fabric within a short treatment time. Plasma pretreatment and subsequent acrylic acid (AAc) or 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) grafting process were studied and optimized at the stage after dyed and finished procedure. The monomer-grafted dyed Nylon-6 fabrics evolved lasting hydrophilic properties and thereafter created or improve… Show more

“…The deconvoluted O1s spectra of the plasma treated PA66 sample ( Fig. 3d) also shows two peaks, however, the peaks previously attributed to the single bonded oxygen show a shift in binding energy (from 533.2 eV to 532.7 eV) related to the presence of the carboxyl acid group [54]. These results suggest that the oxidation of the surface takes place, in an initial phase, mainly by the formation of C O bond that is dominant in the earliest stages of DBD treatment as previously stated [7,46].…”

“…Moreover, the content and the thickness of the reacted substances are of importance, since plasmasubstance reactions are very superficial. At the plasmasubstance interface, the reaction states and compositions and plasma reactivity undoubtedly vary with plasma treatment time [13].…”

“…With characteristics of being "dry" and "clean", low temperature (LT) plasma treatment is one such environmentally friendly process. It has attracted much interest and efforts in study and application in the textile field (Radetic et al, 2006;Karahan et al, 2007;Bajaj, 2001;Sanchez, 1998;Bozzi et al, 2005;Liao et al, 2005;Senthilkumar et al, 2008).…”
