“…The transient electromagnetic (TEM) soundings have been used extensively to map changes in groundwater quality, which depends on the variation of conductivity (Stewart and Gay 1986;Kruse et al 1998). The ability to acquire vertical data as well as lateral data without drilling makes the TEM technique quite cost effective as nondestructive noninvasive method, especially in reconnaissance mapping of the extent of saltwater intrusion, estimating its approximate depth and any changes within the saltwater transition zone (McNeill 1990(McNeill , 1990Goldman and Kafri 2006). TEM soundings are particularly well suited to delineate layered structures of interest in geologic as well as groundwater exploration (Nabighian and Macnae 1991) and for assisting in mapping boundaries between freshwater and saltwater in coastal aquifers because of its ability to detect good conductors, such as clay and shale as well as saline water environment (Fitterman and Deszcz-Pan 1998; Kontar and Ozorovich 2006;Shah et al 2007).…”
