Hydrogenated Oxygen-Deficient Blue Anatase as Anode for High-Performance Lithium Batteries

Abstract: Blue oxygen-deficient nanoparticles of anatase TiO2 (H-TiO2) are synthesized using a modified hydrogenation process. Scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope images clearly demonstrate the evident change of the TiO2 morphology, from 60 nm rectangular nanosheets to much smaller round or oval nanoparticles of ∼17 nm, after this hydrogenation treatment. Importantly, electron paramagnetic resonance and positronium annihilation lifetime spectroscopy confirm that plentiful oxygen vacancies a… Show more

“…The binding energies of Ti 2p 3/2 and Ti 2p 1/2 which can be detected at ~458.6 eV and ~464.5 eV, respectively, are typical for Ti 4+ species in TiO 2 12 , 28 . Additionally, the almost identical Ti 2p spectra of RHT and HT and the absence of any Ti 3+ signals 30 suggests that no titanium with lower oxidation states were observed on the surface of RHT samples (Fig. 7a ).…”

“…29 The existence of oxygen vacancies can promote the energetics for ion and electron transport, and preserve the integrity of the sample surface morphology. [30][31][32] The peak intensity increased along with the increase in glucose additive amount, indicating that the oxygen vacancy content in the amorphous sample was much larger than that in the crystalline sample.…”

“…Among the narrow band gap semiconductors, cadmium based chalcogenides showed effective photocatalytic‐to‐hydrogen fuel generation compared to metal oxides as it possess high photo absorption in visible spectrum . In this line, cadmium selenide (CdSe) is a promising visible light driven semiconductor photocatalyst material have suitable energy gap and band edge potentials for H 2 generation via water splitting . Cadmium selenide conduction band reduction potential lies between −0.27 eV to −1.26 eV and valence band oxidation potential is +0.7 eV to +1.42 eV, that fulfil the basic requirement of overall water splitting reactions.…”
