Hydro-geochemical and Geophysical Study of Groundwater in the Suburb of Osogbo, South Western Nigeria

Abstract: In an attempt to carry out the assessment of groundwater quality from hand dug wells and streams in Onibu-Eja and Aduramigba communities, suburb of Oshogbo, South Western Nigeria, with a view to determine the impact of a nearby dumpsite on the groundwater quality, twenty (20) water samples were taken randomly at varying depths within the vicinity. The cation and heavy metal analyses were done in accordance to APHA standard using the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) while the anion analyses were carrie… Show more

“…Hydrogeochemical model such as Gibbs, Chadba and Soltan derive from equation 7 to 9 was used to characterize groundwater within the study area. According to [46] groundwater experiences series of chemical reactions and impact processes as it moves from one region to another below the subsurface, Therefore hydrogeochemical assessment of groundwater is essentially mandatory to characterize groundwater in order to know the what it can be used for.…”

“…The process of moving groundwater between geological layers below the subsurface from one region to another faces a large number of chemical processes, and a change occurs in its chemical composition in colour, taste and smell. These processes include interaction with gases in the unsaturated zone and the chemical composition of recharge water in addition to water interactions with some human activities [13]. The investigation of the quality of groundwater chemistry is one of the hot topics and raises international interest due to its close association with sustainable development and environmental policies [14].…”
