Herein, thermophysical properties of l-ascorbic acid and nicotinic acid in different compositions (0.05, 0.10, and 0.15) mol kg–1 of aqueous [BMIm]Br solvent media have been investigated. Different thermodynamic and viscometric parameters have been deduced at distinct temperatures (293.15–318.15 K) and at 0.1 MPa via density, speed of sound, and viscosity data to arrive at logical conclusions. The evaluated parameters include partial molar volume (V ϕ 0), partial molar expansivity (E ϕ 0), partial molar isentropic compression (K ϕ,s 0), viscosity coefficients (A and B), transfer values, thermodynamic parameters (Δμ1 0, Δμ2 0, ΔH 2 0, and TΔS 2 0), etc. These parameters have been interpreted in provisions of different interactions prevailing between taken vitamins and [BMIm]Br in an aqueous medium. In addition, UV spectroscopy has been used to examine the interactions prevailing between selected vitamins and [BMIm]Br. From the procured results, we can state that there is supremacy of ion–dipole and dipole–dipole interactions in the studied systems.

“…The values for the speed of sound of (distilled water + poly(ethylene glycol)s) is directly taken from our previous paper 19 and is compared with the literature 17,20,22 for (PEG 400 + distilled water) that is represented in Figure 1b from which it can be deduced that the nature of the increase in the speed of sound values against their respective temperatures and concentrations in both the cases shows a similar pattern. The experimental c (speed of sound) values for (distilled water + niacin) are compared with the literature values 25,28 at temperatures 298.15 and 308.15 K, which are represented graphically in Figure 5, and it is observed that the speed of sound values increase along with the concentrations of niacin from 0.07 to 0.08 to 0.09 mol•kg −1 and temperature, hence exhibiting a similar trend as that in the literature. This occurs for the three-dimensional networks in hydrogen bonds in water.…”

Volumetric and Ultrasonic Studies of Molecular Interactions of PEG 400 and PEG 4000 in Aqueous Niacin Solutions at Different Temperatures

At multiple temperatures, 288.15–318.15 K, the density and speed of sound values for PEGs of molecular weights 400 and 4000 in aqueous niacin solutions were measured at concentrations of 0.07, 0.08, and 0.09 mol·kg–1. Utilizing these experimental data, the apparent molar properties and partial molar properties were determined to analyze the interactions in aqueous niacin solutions with poly(ethylene glycol)s (400/4000). The volumetric parameters, such as apparent molar volume, V ϕ, partial molar volume, V ϕ 0, and partial molar volume of transfer, ΔV ϕ 0, are obtained using experimental density values, while the acoustic parameters, i.e., apparent molar isentropic compression, K ϕ,S, partial molar isentropic compression, K ϕ,S 0, and partial molar isentropic compression of transfer, ΔK ϕ,S 0, are determined with the speed of sound data. These positive volumetric apparent and partial molar properties suggest the presence of strong solute–solvent interactions. The partial molar expansibilities (E ϕ 0) along with their first derivative (∂E ϕ 0/∂T)P were calculated. Further, pair and triplet coefficients are obtained using partial molar isentropic compression and partial molar volume of the transfer, respectively.

Molecular dissolution behaviors on porous membrane surface using hierarchical metal–organic framework lamellar membrane

Lamellar membranes, especially assembled by microporous framework nanosheets, have excited interest for fast molecular permeation. However, the underlying molecular dissolution behaviors on membrane surface, especially at pore entrances, remain unclear. Here, hierarchical metal-organic framework (MOF) lamellar membranes with 7 nm-thick surface layer and 553 nm-thick support layer are prepared. Hydrophilic (-NH 2 ) or hydrophobic (-CH 3 ) groups are decorated at pore entrances on surface layer to manipulate wettability, while -CH 3 groups on support layer provide comparable, low-resistance paths. We demonstrate that molecular dissolution behaviors are determined by molecule-molecule and molecule-pore interactions, derived from intrinsic parameters of molecule and membrane. Importantly, two dissolution model equations are established: for hydrophobic membrane surface, dissolution activation energy (E S ) obeys E S = K m ln[(γ L -γ C )μd 2 ], while turns to E S =K a ln [(γ L -γ C )δ e μd 2 ] for hydrophilic one. Particularly, hydrophilic pore entrances exert strong interaction with polar molecules, thus compensating the energy consumed by molecule rearrangement, giving fast permeation (>270 L m À2 h À1 bar À1 ).
