Hybrid stress analysis of a near-surface circular hole in finite structures

Abstract: The ability to stress-analyze complicated structures from recorded load-induced temperatures is demonstrated. The considered structures have a near-surface hole and subjected to a concentrated load. The complexity of the structure is simplified by conformal mapping, the traction-free condition on the boundary of the hole is analytically satisfied by analytic continuation, and the equilibrium and compatibility conditions are satisfied by means of Airy stress function in complex-variable formulation. For isotrop… Show more

“…Ju et al [11] used an analytical solution for obtaining the deformation and stress fields in multilayer composite laminates under mechanical loading. Alshaya and Lin [12] used an analytical solution to determine the stress distribution around a circular hole located in an isotropic plate using the hybrid complex-variable method. Damghani et al [13] utilized the Lekhnitskiis complex variable method and obtained the stress resultant distribution at the edge of an elliptical or circular hole in an infinite composite plate under membrane loading.…”

“…In other work, the complex variable formulation and Airy stress function have been presented to analyze the stress-induced around cut-out in the flat plate. 26 Similarly, stress concentration around the cut-outs of various shapes has been investigated for the composite plates subjected to tensile loading. 27 The influences of size and orientation of a rectangular cut-out on the buckling of fiber-reinforced composite cylinder has been investigated numerically using a simulation model in ABAQUS and experimentally.…”

“…Thin composite plates as main elements in most recent structures have found widespread applications in industrial production [1,2]. In recent decades, the increasing requirements for the improved performance of structures has made designers interested in designing structural elements with optimal shapes [3,4]. Different shapes of holes in the structures are required to minimize the structures' weight and supply accessibility other than the system parts [5,6].…”
