“…This is due to the reaction between reactive isocyanate groups (NCO) on the end of PU chains and water in the air 29 . Therefore, a feasible method to avoid this problem is modifying PU by alkoxysilane which can react with the NCO groups to obtain silane‐terminated polyurethane (STPU) chains 30,31 . When end‐capped by silane groups, the solidification of the STPU is moisture‐curable in the air undergoing the processes of hydrolyzation and condensation reaction without releasing CO 2.…”

“…[6] Hence, a practical way of avoiding this issue is to modify the polyurethane through the reaction with silane to generate silane-modified polyurethane (SPU) chains that attach to the NCO groups. [7,8] The resulting silanized polyurethane (SPU) obtained by the functional modification of PU with silane offers the dual benefits of silicone and polyurethane. The modified PU does not release CO 2 gas when it cures with moisture from the air, overcoming the inherent deficiencies of PU such as inadequate weathering performance, resulting in an outstanding performance similar to that of silicone.…”
