Hybrid processing of laser scanning data

Abstract: Abstract. In this article the analysis of gaps in processing of raw laser scanning data and results of bridging the gaps discovered on the base of usage of laser scanning data for historic building information modeling is presented. The results of the development of a unified hybrid technology for the processing, storage, access and visualization of combined laser scanning and photography data about historical buildings are analyzed. The first result of the technology application for the historical building of… Show more

“…BIM models contain detailed information about three-dimensional geometry of the FoF facilities, the appropriate rich semantics of structure elements and all engineering networks in buildings, as well as detailed information on the function of the infrastructure supporting the production process [8]. The Digital Shadow represents the entire production of the FoF and its processes, including its products and peripherals [4,7].…”

“…Most of the existing assets do not have any BIM-model, which for existing building is known as as-built BIM-models (Tang et al, 2010). To resolve such a problem of a digital model absence, the laser scanning technologies have been widely adopted in the as-built BIM creation industry (Pärn et al, 2017;Badenko et al, 2018a, Badenko et al, 2018b. Thus, creation of the as-built BIM-models can be based on laser scanning data used to obtain accurate building parameters, primarily geometric, and this process is called as the scan-to-BIM process (Bosché et al, 2015).…”

“…BIM technologies became the trend of the last years; BIM also faces some obstacles during its introduction in construction community and as any product it has some advantages and disadvantages [2][3]. However, some positive moments in relation to BIM are also observed.…”
