Hybrid composites based on technical cellulose from rice husk

Abstract: We introduced the preparation of hybrid composites using technical cellulose as a matrix material from rice husks with a natural SiO 2 content from 0% to 19.4%. In this work, the physicochemical characteristics of the resulting hybrid composites have been investigated. The presence of SiAOAC chemical bonds in the resulting hybrid composites was determined by infrared spectroscopy. Microscopic analysis showed the complete removal of the mineral component and lignin from the cell wall of the rice husk fibers. Th… Show more

“…It was noticed the only RH matrix was uniformly stained due to the high content of epidermal fibres in outer layer of a seed. Epidermal fibres contain up to 30% mineral components by the end of the growing season [14,19,20]. While growing, two processes occur simultaneously within the cell wall: formation of the supramolecular structure of cellulose and accumulation of silica dioxide [21].…”

“…It can be extracted from plants and trees in purest form by simple and nontoxic methods. Apart from this, cellulose can also be extracted in crystalline and amorphous forms from agricultural wastes like sugar cane bagasse, rice husk, corncob, and grain straws . Likewise, high amounts of accessible biopolymers such as chitosan, agarose, and carrageenan originate in the seas.…”
