Hyalinizing Spindle Cell Tumor with Giant Rosettes: A Case Report

Abstract: Hyalinizing spindle cell tumor with giant rosettes (HSCTGR) is characterized by both giant rosette-like structures with collagen cores sparsely distributed throughout the tumor and fibromyxoid stroma. It is a rare low-grade sarcoma with indolent behavior, and wide excision with long-term follow-up is the best treatment. Although originally considered a distinct entity, it is now regarded as a variant of low-grade fibromyxoid sarcoma. We present a case of HSCTGR arising in the deep soft tissue of the left knee … Show more

“…However, HSTGR is a variant of LGFMS that also has a tendency for local recurrence and metastasis, and its behavior resembles that of LGFMS. 40 The study by Folpe et al 6 similarly evaluated both LGFMS and HSTGR and found 5 recurrences, 3 metastasis, and 1 death. When excluding the 3 HSTGR from our review, there are 3 local recurrences (25%) of 12 reported LGFMS outcomes, which is comparable to our original finding of 26.7%.…”

“…1 A small subset of both LGFMS and hyalinizing spindle tumour (HSCT) displays areas of increased cellularity and atypical which qualify as intermediate to high grade sarcoma. 2 Spindle cell carcinomas are rare presentation in the esophagus as well. 3 These tumors rarely metastasized, but pulmonary and lymph nodes metastases are reported in the literature.…”
