“…The role of reactive oxygen species in human kidney transplantation seems to correlate with results obtained in animal studies. In human renal transplantation studies, increases in myeloperoxidase and lipid peroxide product levels have been demonstrated in the blood of the transplant recipients following revascularization [13][14][15]. In this study, we have investigated whether TMZ has a protective effect on renal tissue subjected to IR injury.…”

“…As oxygen free radicals are responsible for oxidative damage of tissues exposed to ischaemia [21], it was unsurprising to know that during balloon angioplasty of peripheral arteries, LPO, a marker of oxidative stress, was markedly increased following balloon inflation compared to baseline [14]. Another study demonstrated that peripher-al blood showed a transient increase in markers of lipid peroxidation following successful surgery for limb salvage at intervals of 11 h after reperfusion [15]. Nevertheless, one study by Hafez et al [16] failed to demonstrate a similar rise in patients undergoing abdominal aortic aneurysm repair.…”

“…Oxygen free radicals are responsible for oxidative damage of tissues exposed to ischaemia, although the changes following balloon angioplasty and surgery for PVD have been conflicting [14][15][16]. It remains uncertain whether the changes in oxidative stress contribute to abnormal thrombogenesis following vascular surgery.…”

“…Aliquots of 10 ml blood were centrifuged and serum samples were stored at -24°C till later analysis. Oxygen free radical mediated lipid peroxidation was determined from the same aliquots that were used for the determination of clinical tumor markers [12][13][14][15][16].…”
