“…Although the number of patients in the present study was small, the findings were consistent with previous reports regarding the global incidence of HPV , and 58 (27). Moreover, a high prevalence of HPV 52 and 58 genotypes in Southeast Asian countries has been reported previously (28)(29)(30). Therefore, HPV genotype distribution in uterine CC varies geographically.…”

“…In this study, there was a relatively low prevalence of HPV 45 in both ICC (1.3%) and in HSIL cases (0.5%). These results do not support two previous studies based on a relatively limited number of ICC biopsy specimens (B40 per site) suggesting that HPV types 52 and 58 may be equally or more common type infections than HPV 16 or 18 among ICC cases from Shanghai [20,21] and Jiangxi [21]. To examine further the possibility of a higher prevalence of HPV 52 or 58 on the southern coast of China, we conducted stratified analyses of HPV DNA prevalence among 44 available cases from Guangdong.…”

“…In several previous studies, the high prevalence of HPV 52 and HPV 58 has been reported in Chinese populations. [3][4][5]7,8,29 Our study was the first comprehensive study on the genetic variations of E6-E7-LCR of HPV 52 and 58 and their association with cervical neoplasia in Taiwan.…”

“…In addition to HPV 16 and 18, HPV 52 and 58 are also considered high-risk types for cervical intraepithelial lesions (CINs) and invasive carcinoma. 1,2 The unusually high prevalence of HPV 52 and 58 has been reported in Chinese populations living in China 3,4 and Taiwan. [5][6][7][8] In a previous report of our study, the prevalence of high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL) or worse lesions among participants with single-type infection of HPV 16, HPV 58 and HPV 52 at study entry was 31.9, 35.7 and 13.3%, respectively.…”
