All key families of plant-infecting fungi have been observed to be infected by mycoviruses, which are substantial and ubiquitous viruses. Mycoviruses, like all other plant and animal viruses, must reproduce in live cells. These viruses spread either during spore production or cell division. Few mycoviruses are known to have a positive single-stranded RNA genome, while the majority have double-stranded RNA genomes. Few mycoviruses have been identified as the causative agents of triggering atypical pigmentation and sporadic growth to alter the sexual reproduction of the host. These viruses are categorized into taxonomic groups as developed from plant viruses. mycoviruses are notable due to their amazing capacity to cause a dramatic decrease in the virulence (hypovirulence) of the host. It has been observed that mycoviruses do not necessarily cause hypovirulence, but they also impart hypervirulence to the host fungi. The current effort summarizes the data regarding mycoviral diversity, taxonomy and their role in the pathogenesis of pathogenic fungi.

Candida auris, a rapidly emerging multidrug-resistant fungal pathogen, poses a global health threat, with cases reported in over 47 countries. Conventional detection methods struggle, and the increasing resistance of C. auris to antifungal agents has limited treatment options. Nanoparticle-based therapies, utilizing materials like silver, carbon, zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, polymer, and gold, show promise in effectively treating cutaneous candidiasis. This review explores recent advancements in nanoparticle-based therapies, emphasizing their potential to revolutionize antifungal therapy, particularly in combating C. auris infections. The discussion delves into mechanisms of action, combinations of nanomaterials, and their application against multidrug-resistant fungal pathogens, offering exciting prospects for improved clinical outcomes and reduced mortality rates. The aim is to inspire further research, ushering in a new era in the fight against multidrug-resistant fungal infections, paving the way for more effective and targeted therapeutic interventions.

Phloroglucinol (PG) is a natural product isolated from plants, algae, and microorganisms. Aside from that, the number of PG derivatives has expanded due to the discovery of their potential biological roles. Aside from its diverse biological activities, PG and its derivatives have been widely utilized to treat microbial infections caused by bacteria, fungus, and viruses. The rapid emergence of antimicrobial-resistant microbial infections necessitates the chemical synthesis of numerous PG derivatives in order to meet the growing demand for drugs. This review focuses on the use of PG and its derivatives to control microbial infection and the underlying mechanism of action. Furthermore, as future perspectives, some of the various alternative strategies, such as the use of PG and its derivatives in conjugation, nanoformulation, antibiotic combination, and encapsulation, have been thoroughly discussed. This review will enable the researcher to investigate the possible antibacterial properties of PG and its derivatives, either free or in the form of various formulations.
