HSRNAFold: A harmony search algorithm for RNA secondary structure prediction based on minimum free energy

Abstract: Current physical methods for RNA structure determination are time consuming and expensive; thus the methods for the computational prediction of structure are necessary. Various algorithms have been used for RNA structure prediction including dynamic programming and meta-heuristic algorithms. This paper proposes a meta-heuristic harmony search algorithm (HSRNAFold) for finding RNA secondary structure with minimum free energy and similarity to the native structure. HSRNAFold is compared to dynamic programming te… Show more

“…Among the metaheuristic optimization algorithms applied to structural optimization, the harmony search algorithm stands out as one of the most widely used techniques. Besides structural optimization, the harmony search technique has been applied to various areas of science and engineering such as transportation engineering [ 36 , 37 , 38 , 39 ], environmental engineering [ 40 , 41 ], healthcare systems [ 42 ], bioinformatics [ 43 , 44 , 45 ], and cloud computing [ 46 ].…”
