HPLC–DAD–ESI-MS/MS screening of bioactive components from Rhus coriaria L. (Sumac) fruits

Abstract: Rhus coriaria L. (sumac) is an important crop widely used in the Mediterranean basin as a food spice, and also in folk medicine, due to its health-promoting properties. Phytochemicals present in plant foods are in part responsible for these consequent health benefits. Nevertheless, detailed information on these bioactive compounds is still scarce. Therefore, the present work was aimed at investigating the phytochemical components of sumac fruit epicarp using HPLC-DAD-ESI-MS/MS in two different ionisation modes… Show more

“…In subfractions, puerarin, vitexin and apigenin-6,8-C-pentoside-hexoside and a flavonoid derivative have been identified by interpreting spectra information. Vitexin has been identified in Arum dioscoridis and A. palaestinum extracts in previous studies [32,33]. Vitexin drags colon cancer cells into apoptosis and prevents cell growth; and drags leucocythemia cells (U937) into apoptosis due to its effects on mitochondrial signaling pathways [34].…”

“…The family Anacardiaceae covers over 70 genera in which more than 600 species are distributed in tropical, sub-tropical and temperate regions in the world (Engels et al, 2012). The family is rich in important secondary metabolites with varieties of interesting biological activities (Abu-Reidah et al, 2015).…”
