Hpa1 secretion via type III secretion system in Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae

Abstract: In many Gram-negative plant pathogenic bacteria the type III secretion system (TTSS), encoded by hrp genes, is essential for pathogenicity in the host and induction of a hypersensitive reaction (HR) in nonhost plants. The expression of hrp genes has been suggested to be repressed in complex media, whereas it is induced in planta and under certain in vitro conditions. We recently reported that XOM2 medium allows efficient hrp expression by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae. In this study, we investigated hrp-depend… Show more

“…2). We inoculated the XopP Xoo -OX lines with the T3SS-deficient hrpX mutant of Xoo that is incapable of type III effector delivery 18,19 . Because inoculation of the Xoo hrpX mutant induces a strong PTI response in rice, the Xoo hrpX mutant did not cause any disease lesions in wild-type (nontransformed) plants (Fig.…”

“…oryzae (Xoo) is the causal agent of rice leaf blight disease. The Xoo strain MAFF311018 encodes 16 non-TAL effector proteins, while Philippine strain PXO99A encodes 18 (Furutani et al, 2009;Song and Yang, 2010). So far, the precise mechanisms of most non-TAL effectors remain largely unknown.…”
