How does the brain process music?

Abstract: -The organisation of the musical brain is a major focus of interest in contemporary neuroscience. This reflects the increasing sophistication of tools (especially imaging techniques) to examine brain anatomy and function in health and disease, and the recognition that music provides unique insights into a number of aspects of nonverbal brain function. The emerging picture is complex but coherent, and moves beyond older ideas of music as the province of a single brain area or hemisphere to the concept of music … Show more

“…1 It seems to be the case that various locations and circuits may be identified for certain aspects of the sensory input of musical sounds, and similar experiments in the visual area have been concerned with which bits of the brain do what, for example, when a subject views a recognised artistic painting as opposed to alternative sensory inputs. This is most revealing, but sometimes seems to drift away from the central point of art generally and, in the context of this article, music, namely the 'experience of the experience' , the feeling state that is aroused which leads to the aesthetic satisfaction.…”
