“…The XRD pattern analysis of the coatings reveals that some changes occurred during the spraying process. The Yb 2 O 3 phase in Figure 5 was caused by the decomposition of Yb 2 SiO 5 particles into Yb 2 O 3 and SiO 2 in the plasma plume of 2000–3500°C during the APS process and the evaporation of SiO 2 4,12,21 . Compared with Figure 2, the amorphous peaks appeared at 25–35° (yellow region) in the XRD patterns of as‐sprayed nanostructured and conventional Yb 2 SiO 5 coatings, which were caused by the rapid cooling of the Yb 2 SiO 5 droplets during the APS process.…”

“…The methods used for preparing EBCs are electron beam physical vapor deposition (PVD), plasma spraying‐PVD, and atmospheric plasma spraying (APS) 17–20 . APS preparation techniques have the advantages of higher deposition rates, simpler preparation processes, capability of handling substrates with different shapes, and homogeneous microstructure, making APS the main method for preparing EBCs 21 . However, Yb 2 SiO 5 coatings form several amorphous phases during the APS process, and the amorphous phase in the Yb 2 SiO 5 coating recrystallizes under high‐temperature operating conditions, with heat being released simultaneously.…”
