“…In contrast, ‘cold/cool’ foods with lower oxidation potential and anti-inflammatory properties may play roles in detoxification/elimination processes. 56 In our VFJ, raw and fresh foods consisted attributes with cold/cool (beetroot, celery, cucumber, alfalfa sprouts, tomato, apple, orange, and lemon), neutral (carrot, pineapple, and Chinese wolfberry), and warm (guava). 56 , 57 Future research into metabolomics may provide additional quantifiable evidence to verify these ancient classifications of ‘hot/warm’ or ‘cold/cool’ attributes, as well as additional therapy possibilities.…”

“…According to Ayurvedic texts, pregnancy is considered a hot state, therefore, a pregnant woman should avoid consuming hot food groups whereas, the period after childbirth is considered as cold so it is recommended that they consume hot food groups (Achaya, 1997), (Sen, 2014). A recent study conducted a scientific evaluation of the chemical composition and physiological impact based on the properties of 'hot' and 'cold' food and found that food that caused a heating effect on the body was associated with metabolism and sympathetic nervous system enhancement and showed higher oxidation potential and pro-inflammatory effects whereas food that cools the body was associated with anti-inflammatory, and detoxification processes (Ormsby, 2021). The participant interviews showed that the 'hot' and 'cold' food restrictions are prevalent in Kerala irrespective of religious differences.…”

“…In many cultures, food is identified through its thermostatic properties; therefore, certain foods are deemed "hot" and others "cold." 3 These medicinal concepts are comparable to Unani, Persian, and Iranian medicine, which is based upon the Greek physician Hippocrates's concept of "humoral pathology." 3 Humoral medicine creates temperaments, mainly hot, cold, wet, and dry.…”
