“…Worth (1950), working in Florida, found the same situation in the case of the cotton rat which was parasitized by H. hirsute, and the rice rat (Oryzomys palustris) which was parasitized by Hoplopleura quadridentata. Data presented by Morlan (1952) in regard to Polyplax spinulosa which he found on two species of Peromyscus as well as the normal hosts, the black rat (Rattus rattus) and the Norway rat (R. norvegicus), appear to contradict the assumption that the lice are host specific. These records seem, however, to be cases of contamination.…”
