In contrast, it has been shown for MSV-induced tumors that both T-and non-T-cells with specific cytotoxicity (Lamon et al, 1973;Aoki et al, 1974;Senik et al, 1974), as well as macrophages with non-specific growth-inhibiting and suppressor activities (Kirchner et a/., 1975), can be found in the spleen and peripheral lymph nodes, and we have found (H. T. Holden, J. S. Haskill, and H. Kirchner, in preparation) that both the T-cell and macrophage populations are present within the tumor as well. Thus, further studies of host immune responses to tumors in situ and their relationship to peripheral immune reactivity, and correlation of the results from different systems, should enable investigators to determine the value of the peripheral response for diagnosis of human tumors and for prognosis.…”
