“…A second homeoboxcontaining DNA sequence referred to as MMoXB (Gbx-1) was also found in the mouse and shown to encode exactly the same peptide sequence as MMoxA, suggesting the presence in the mouse genome of two closely related genes. Two different DNAs encoding the same homeodomain have also been found in the human (Matsui et al, 1993), Xenopus (King and Moore, 19941, fish (Levine and Schechter, 1993), and lamprey (Pendleton et al, 1993) genomes.…”

“…Kip1 probe was synthesized from a 590 bp cDNA fragment corresponding to the complete open reading frame (ORF), and CycD1 probe was synthesized from a 250 bp PCR clone that spans 120 nucleotides (nt) of the 5′-untranslated region and 105 nt of the ORF containing the N-terminal domain. Specific details for electrophoresis, transfer and hybridization have been described previously (Chow et al, 1998;Levine and Schechter, 1993).…”

“…Systematic PCR surveys for homeobox genes were conducted for the goldfish (Carassius auratus) [31], the striped bass [48], the zebrafish [40], and the killifish Fundulus heteroclitus [41]. This technique results in short fragments (about 70-80nt) with highly conserved amino-acid sequences that in most cases can be assigned to one of the 13 vertebrate paralog groups.…”

“…A question mark without a gene name indicates less likely alternative assignment(s), see text. Gene names are taken mostly from the PCR surveys of medaka (MF-numbers from [29]), striped bass from [48], goldfish from [31], and killifish from [41]. The killifish sequences were extracted from the printed paper as they are not contained in the databases.…”
