“…HLA-B5 was reported to be associated with two diseases. Zimmerman et al (1977) found an increased frequency in patients with recurrent herpetic keratitis, an observation confirmed by Damgaard-Jensen et al (1979) and Colin et al (1981) but not by others (Meyers-Elliott et al 1981, Voker-Dieben et al 1981. Ohno et al (1975) have reported an increased frequency of B5 in Japanese patients with Behcet's disease, a finding which they further extended (Ohno et al 1978) and concluded that HLA-B5 was most commonly found among males with a complete form of the Behcet's disease.…”

“…In their investigation of a total of 46 patients, all with recurrent epithelial keratitis, they found an insignificant increase of HLA-B5. The increased frequency of HLA-B5 in the 61 patients investigated by Colin et al (1981) was also insignificant. The reports on recurrent epithelial keratitis consequently are conflicting, and a combination of data from the 132 patients shown in Table 5 does not show a significant association between HLA-B5 and this type of herpetic keratitis.…”

“…Damgaard-Jensen et al (1979) summarized their HLA-B5 antigen frequency on recurrent stromal keratitis with that of Zimmerman et al (1977), patients with recurrent epithelial keratitis, and could then demonstrate an increased frequency of HLA-B5, which was statistically significant after correction for the number of comparisons made. In a recent study of 44 patients, all with recurrent stromal keratitis, Colin et al (1981) suggested a borderlinely significant rise in the HLA-B5 frequency. In the same study, 61 patients with recurrent epithelial keratitis were HLA-typed.…”
