Histomorphometric Analysis of Bone Regeneration After Use of Propolis Versus Nanobone Graft Materials for the Management of Class Ii Furcation Defects in Dogs

Abstract: INTRODUCTION: Nanotechnology has been greatly utilized for bone regeneration strategies. It helps overcome some of the current limitations associated with bone regeneration methods Propolis is a natural substance made by the honeybee, it has effective antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory effects. Moreover, it has multiple biological effects including improvement of wound healing and bone regeneration. OBJECTIVES: comparison of the effectiveness of NanoBone graft and propolis material on the inter-… Show more

“…In fact, the histomorphometric and biomechanical results of chitosan were even superior to the autograft group when applied in combination with royal jelly ( Meimandi-Parizi et al, 2018b ). Additionally, comparisons have shown superior outcomes of propolis compared to NanoBone and Nanohydroxyapatite ( Zohery et al, 2018 ; Zohery et al, 2017 ).…”

“…Limitations of these studies included the lack of histological assessment in the early healing stage that could have revealed initial tissue reaction to propolis material, and also, the absence of clinical findings on the periodontal response to the grafted materials. Therefore, a clinical trial should be considered in future attempts ( Zohery et al, 2018 ; Zohery et al, 2017 ). Alcoholic extracts of propolis expedite tissue regeneration ( Sutta et al, 1975 ), enhance the healing process in damaged cartilage ( Scheller et al, 1977 ), and increase ossification in induced bone defects ( Stojko et al, 1978 ).…”

“…For this reason, clinical research involving human subjects has traditionally been thought to require the use of animal experimental models. All the rabbits in the current study were male to exclude any variations that might be caused by female hormonal changes (5,13).…”

“…Particularly concerning is sepsis within 15 days of reconstitution (11,12). Anesthesia All surgical procedures were done under general anesthesia, with 0.05 ml of xylazine hydrochloride (Xyla-ject) (ADWIA, Egypt) and 0.1 ml of ketamine hydrochloride (Aneket) (NEON Pharmaceutical, UK) administered intramuscularly for every 100 grammes of body weight (13).…”
