Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) defined as is a disease with hyperglycemia, insulin resistance and fetal abnormality development. This study was designed to evaluate the hypoglycemic effect and hepatoprotective properties of olive leaves extract. The experimental ISSN 2157-6076 2017 mice divided into, the control group GI (not diabetic group), and the diabetic pregnant mice groups were divided into: the diabetic pregnant group (GII) single intraperitoneal injected by streptozotocine (STZ, 240mg/Kg b.wt.). The pregnant mice were given a daily oral dose of olive leaf extract (OLE) only (100 mg/kg) from day 1 to 18 of gestation group (GIII). The diabetic pregnant mice were given daily oral dose of olive leaf extract from day 1 to day 18 of gestation, group (GIV). The STZ-induced diabetic group(GII) exhibited a significant (p<0.05) hyperglycemia, accompanied with a significant increase in serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT), enzyme activities when compared with control group. This result is confirmed with extreme histopathological changes in liver tissues and decreased in glutathione peroxidase (GPx) expression. A significant improvement in glucose level, serum AST and ALT enzyme activities showed in (GIV). Also, OLE succeeded to minimize the severe changes in liver tissues of diabetic pregnant mice and their fetuses. Furthermore, level of (GPx) was returned to near normal level. The findings suggest that OLE have a hepatoprotective effect on pregnant diabetic mice and their fetus. Journal of Biology and Life Science

Six new pimarane derivatives, including two dinor-pimaranes (1, 2), two 17-nor-pimaranes (3, 4), and two 17-nor-(9β-H)-pimaranes (5, 6) were isolated from the tuber of Icacina trichantha. Their structures were elucidated based on spectroscopic and HRMS data. The absolute configurations of 1 and 5 were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and that of 2 was established by electronic circular dichroism data analysis. Compound 3 possesses a unique C-20 acetal moiety. It is the first report of the isolation of dinor-(9β-H)-pimarane derivatives from Icacina plants. Compounds 5 and 6 showed moderate cytotoxicity against MDA-MB-435, MDA-MB-231, and OVCAR3 cell lines, with IC50 values of 2.91–7.60 µM and 1.48–3.23 µM, respectively.

Background: Eucalyptus globulus are a prime source of global eucalyptus oil production. This oil has therapeutic, flavoring, antimicrobial, and biopesticide properties. This oil has got popularity because they are reported as pharmacologically active. A study has been conducted with the aim to find dose dependant effect of eucalyptus oil on diabetic mice induced with Streptozotocin (STZ) and analyze the hepatoprotective and nephroprotective nature through biochemical and histological study. STZ at low dose was used to damage pancreatic β cells and induce type II diabetes on mice model. Oil was used in different percentages namely, 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, 2% for treating hyperglycemia. Then after a treatment of 28 days, the total body weight, and biochemical parameters including blood glucose, serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase (SGPT), serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT), Bilirubin, cholesterol, urea, creatinine were checked thoroughly. A complete histological study of different organs like liver, kidney, and pancreas was done. Results: From the explained experiment the result was quite interesting which showed among all the concentration of essential oil, 1.5% showed maximum effect on hyperglycemia with a rapid approach to normalize high blood glucose level and also other biochemical parameters. The tissue was got rejuvenated and behaved as normal cells after being treated with 1.5% oil. Conclusion: So the main purpose of the work is to search for an alternative substituent of antidiabetic drug which can work as potentially as conventional drug for diabetes but without having side effects. And Eucalyptus oil proved to be safe and steady source for hyperglycemic patients at a particular dose. So it can be used for further diabetic research.
