Aisiyah merupakan gerakan ortom Muhammadiyah, gerakan Islam, gerakan dakwah dan tadjdid untuk terwujudnya ajaran Islam yang sebenar-benarnya didasarkan pada Al-qur’an dan As-sunnah. Sebagai gerakan tajdid Aisiyah maupun Muhammadiyah dikenal sebagai ahli hisab khususnya dalam penentuan awal bulan Kamariah. Meski demikian tiap awal Ramdhan majelis tarjih Tajdid Pimpimanan Majelis Tarjih Tajdid Pimpinan Muhammadiyah untuk penguatan idiologinya selalu melakukan sosialiasi ke daerah-daerah, nampaknya pemahaman hisab belum semua tersentuh hingga grossroad. Tidak hanya pemahaman mereka tentang hisab, kader ahli hisab dari kalangan Aisiyah juga jarang. Untuk menjawab permasalahan mitra tersebut, maka pengabdian ini bertujuan memberikan penguatan hisab sebagai idiologi Muhammadiyah serta pelatihan hisab awal bulan. Pelatihan ini diikuti oleh pimpinan cabang Aisiyah dan pimpinan daerah Aisiyah sebanyak 18 orang. Metode yang dilakukan yaitu refreshing peneguhan idiologi dalam aspek hisab Muhammadiyah dan praktek menghitung awal bulan dengan menggunakan scientific Kalkulator FX Casio MS. Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan pra pelatihan pemahaman peserta hampir 80 persen cukup, namun setelah diadakan pelatihan dan pemahaman terkait hisab Muhammadiyah meninggkat menjadi lebih baik.

This paper discusses the issue of renewing the thought of Hijri calendar by Muhammadiyah, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Persatuan Islam and its implications for the existence of a national Hijri calendar. The focus of this paper is to highlight changes in methods and criteria, reference algorithms and the scope of the calendar application area. The main problem in this paper is how Muhammadiyah, NU and Persatuan Islam reform the Hijri calendar thoughts and what are the implications for the realization of the national Hijri calendar. The results of this study indicate that both Muhammadiyah, NU, and Persatuan Islam have updated the Hijri calendar's thought, both in the aspects of methods and criteria, algorithm references and the scope of the calendar application area, which leads to the conformity of the calendar concept that is normatively and scientifically appropriate. The renewal of thought is caused mass organizations face problems with the methods and criteria for determining the beginning of the month in the Hijri calendar. The renewal of thought also influenced by advances in science and technology. However, because this renewal has not been supported by the similar epistemology of determining the beginning of the month and the identity politics of mass organizations, the opportunity to realize a national Hijri calendar is still very unlikely.

“…In Indonesia, Muslims usually adhere to the official decision made by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, or the announcements made by the country's two largest Islamic organizations: Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah. NU bases its decision regarding the beginning of Ramadan and Shawwal mostly on ru'yatul hilal (conventional sighting of the moon), although this does not necessarily mean that this organization ignores the use of hisab (astronomical calculations), Muhammadiyah bases its decision mostly on hisab, particularly the method of hisab wujud al-hilal (Hosen, 2012;Maskufa, 2016). Meanwhile, the Ministry of Religious Affairs combines between the two approach (hisab and ru'yatul hilal) and organizes an official meeting called Sidang Itsbat, between the Ministry officials and the representatives of Islamic organizations, to officially determine the beginning and the end of Ramadan (Nufus, 2018).…”

The Aboge Islamic community in Onje Purbalingga has been one of the most prominent Aboge communities in Central Java. Every year, this community is the subject of media attention due to its different method for determining the beginning of the months of Ramadan and Shawwal. In Onje, the Aboge used to be the majority. Everyone in the village started their fasting for Ramadan and celebrated their Eid based on the Islamic Aboge calendar. The Aboge imam previously had significant influence on religious and socio-cultural life in the community. However, this influence is waning. The Aboge are no longer the majority in the village. This paper provides an analysis on why Aboge Imams started to lose their religious authority in the community. Why did some members of the community adhere to Aboge Islamic traditions while others did not? Using an ethnographic method, this paper argues that the decline of Aboge leaders' influence is shaped not only by the challenges of modernity, but also a process of bureaucratizing sharī‘ah as well as the weak institution of the local Aboge community.
