“…Such mass spectrometry technique enables the analysis of a large number of cells corresponding to a given population (e.g., 10 4 cells per milliliter of solution in the present study), thus providing strong statistical insights. It has been used for analyses of large eukaryotic cells, but only a handful of bacterial characterizations have been carried out in which iron was not detected (Miyashita et al, 2014). In the present study, we performed single-cell inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (SC-ICP-MS) measurements to determine the mass of iron contained in cells of the magnetotactic bacterium Magnetospirillum magneticum strain AMB-1 cultivated at different initial iron concentrations.…”

“…90 • Another option is a drainless small-volume on-axis spray chamber in combination with a low-flow nebuliser (flow rate about 10 µL min -1 ). 91,92,93,94 In this case the massflux introduced into the ICP can easily be calculated.…”

“…With respect to recent advances such as the transfer of this method to time-of-ight 25 (ICP-ToF-MS) and sector-eld 26,27 (ICP-SF-MS) platforms, the use of alternative sample introduction techniques, 28,29 the development of custom data acquisition systems, [30][31][32] or simply the improved sensitivity of latest generation quadrupole instruments (ICP-Q-MS), the limited LDR will become a severe constraint with respect to the viability of spICP-MS. Therefore, "continued research on both the hardware and soware aspects of ICP-MS, and specically spICP-MS" is required to further "improve the applicability of this technique toward a wider array of research problems".…”
