Highly Bright Yellow-Green-Emitting CuInS2 Colloidal Quantum Dots with Core/Shell/Shell Architecture for White Light-Emitting Diodes

Abstract: In this study, we report bright yellow-green-emitting CuInS2 (CIS)-based quantum dots (QDs) and two-band white light-emitting diodes (LEDs) using them. To achieve high quantum efficiency (QE) of yellow-green-emitting CIS QDs, core/shell/shell strategy was introduced to high quality CIS cores (QE = 31.7%) synthesized by using metal-oleate precursors and 1-dodecanethiol. The CIS/ZnS/ZnS QDs showed a high QE of 80.0% and a peak wavelength of 559 nm under the excitation of 450 nm, which is well matched with domina… Show more

“…To increase CRI, we can mix red (R) phosphor with green (G) phosphor, but green phosphor exhibits low efficiency and entails high costs for this RG phosphor with a blue chip . RG QDs have been commonly used in LED because their emission wavelengths can be simply tuned to increase luminescence and its CRI. QDs are optimum backlight materials because of their narrow emission wavelength and superior color purity.…”

“…Amongst ternary chalcogenide materials, group I‐III‐VI (CuInS 2 , CuInSe 2 , AgInSe 2 , CuInTe 2 etc.) and I−V‐VI (CuSbS 2 , CuSbSe 2 , AgSbSe 2 , CuBiSe 2 , etc) semiconductor NCs are well known for their effective use in photovoltaics and optoelectronic fields . The unique properties such as high absorption coefficient (>10 4 cm −1 ), ideal band gap (1‐1.5 eV), high photoelectric corrosion efficiency, photo‐irradiation stability and low toxicity make such materials technologically valuable .…”

“…As a typical example, effective heat dissipation from a white light‐emitting plate by use of a graphene coating helped the WLED to achieve long‐term reliability in emission color characteristics even at high power operating conditions . Packaging of QDs for fabricating WLED color converters can be made in solid and liquid phases . QDs can be more readily dispersed in a liquid, rather than a solid, matrix .…”
