Highly Active and Selective Nickel–Platinum Catalyst for the Low Temperature Hydrogenation of Maleic Anhydride to Succinic Anhydride and Synthesis of Succinic Acid at 40 °C

Abstract: PtNi bimetallic and Ni monometallic catalysts supported on were prepared and evaluated for the hydrogenation of maleic anhydride in the temperature range of 40-150°C. Results from flow reactor studies showed that supports strongly affected the catalytic properties of different bimetallic and monometallic catalysts. The results showed that the HY-Al 2 O 3 support exhibited the highest activity and selectivity. Using NiPt/ Al 2 O 3 -HY catalyst and performing the reaction, it was possible to carry out the lowest… Show more

“…[22] The best results for reduction of carbon-carbon double bond were obtained with Rh/C The second step of the synthetic pathway is the grafting of the unsaturated or saturated OSA on native CDs (α-CD, -CD or γ-CD), RAndomlyMEthylated--CD (RAME--CD) or Hydroxy-Propylated--CD (HP--CD). Various catalysts among the most common for hydrogenation have been envisaged (Pd, Rh or Ru on carbon) (Scheme 2b).…”

“…In 2010, Shi et al studied monometallic Ni and bimetallic NiPt catalysts supported on various zeolyte types for the hydrogenation of MAn with hydrogen gas (H 2 ) at 40-150°C. 7 Bimetallic catalysts on HY-Al 2 O 3 performed the best at a weight hour space velocity of 2 h -1 MAn at 10 bar and 140°C. One year later Kobayashi demonstrated a continuous fl ow hydrogenation of 1 M aqueous MA using polysilane-Al 2 O 3 supported Pd catalysts, under 9 mL min -1 H 2 at 80°C.…”

“…The electrolyte was recycled four times without a drop in current efficiency. In 2010, Shi et al studied monometallic Ni and bimetallic NiPt catalysts supported on various zeolyte types for the hydrogenation of MAn with hydrogen gas (H 2 ) at 40–150°C . Bimetallic catalysts on HY‐Al 2 O 3 performed the best at a weight hour space velocity of 2 h −1 MAn at 10 bar and 140°C.…”

“…As an actual research direction in catalysis is employing combinations of noble, e.g., Pd, Rh, and Pt, and non‐noble, e.g., Fe and Ni, metals in nanoalloyed NPs, which can improve activity and stability of conventional monometallic catalysts and reduce their production costs , this work focuses on bimetallic NPs. From the possible combinations, bimetallic PtNi was chosen since it has been previously successfully applied to several hydrogenation reactions and the superior performance of PtNi NPs compared to their monometallic counterparts is well proved .…”
