Abstract: Seasonal variations differed among stroke subtypes. The OR for CH/CeI and for SAH/CeI was lower in summer and higher in the rest of seasons independent of age, gender, and risk factors.

“…Conversely, others found that the highest incidence and mortality of stroke occurs in summer and autumn as the warmest season of the year whereas, some studies revealed no seasonal and monthly variations in incidence and mortality of stroke. Seasonal variations among stroke subtypes have also been demonstrated by a few studies ( 6 , 9 , 10 ).…”

“…Evidence from epidemiological studies on the stroke and its subtypes have indicated association with biological ( 2 ) , physiological ( 3 ), socioeconomic status ( 4 ) and environmental factors ( 5 ). Over the last three decades, seasonal and monthly variation in the incidence and mortality stroke have been widely investigated in different geographical and climatic conditions ( 6 - 8 ). Nevertheless, findings in many cases are variable and sometimes contradictory.…”

“…1 A stroke is a potentially life-threatening event and a major cause of disability, the incidence of which increases with age. 3 Previous studies have reported a higher incidence of lacunar and atheromatous infarctions during the summer season relative to other seasons, [4][5][6] which may be because the dehydration caused by hot weather leads to hemoconcentration and increased blood and plasma viscosity, and could contribute to thrombosis. 7,8 Therefore, to prevent a stroke, the elderly could be advised to increase their water intake during the summer season, which is when it is easiest to become dehydrated.…”

“…Stroke is one of the most common neurological disorders, and is the second largest cause of death and disability worldwide. 1) Based on its pathogenesis, stroke can be classified into 2 categories: ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke. Ischemic stroke results from disturbances of the cerebral circulation, while hemorrhagic stroke occurs as a result of alterations to the blood vessels in the brain, which ultimately cause intraparenchymal or subarachnoid hemorrhage.…”
