High-Throughput Salivary Metabolite Profiling on an Ultralow Noise Tip-Enhanced Laser Desorption Ionization Mass Spectrometry Platform for Noninvasive Diagnosis of Early Lung Cancer

Abstract: Lung cancer (LC) is a widespread cancer that is the cause of the highest mortality rate accounting for 25% of all cancer deaths. To date, most LC patients are diagnosed at the advanced stage owing to the lack of obvious symptoms in the early stage and the limitations of current clinical diagnostic techniques. Therefore, developing a high throughput technique for early screening is of great importance. In this work, we established an effective and rapid salivary metabolic analysis platform for early LC diagnosi… Show more

“…In the early lung cancer patients, Jiang et al [ 51 ] verified the significant dysfunction of the metabolic pathways, such as the amino acid metabolism (including arginine and proline metabolism, arginine biosynthesis, valine, leucine and isoleucine biosynthesis) and the nucleotide metabolism (including purine metabolism and aminoacyl-tRNA biosynthesis). Based on the determined 23 altered salivary metabolites, early LC patients could be differentiated from the healthy subjects with a sensitivity of 97.2% and specificity of 92%.…”

“…developed an effective platform based on the proteomic analysis of salivary samples collected from 89 early lung cancer patients, 11 advanced lung cancer patients and 50 healthy volunteers. The sensitivity and specificity were high enough to distinguish early cacer patients from healthy people ( 51 ). Pan et al.…”
