High-sensitivity C-reactive protein as a novel marker in early diagnosis of ovarian torsion: an experimental study

Abstract: The measurement of hs-CRP in a rat model seems to be a valuable plasma marker in early detection and diagnosis of ovarian torsion. However, further clinical and experimental studies of a larger size are required.

“…Ovarian ischemia–reperfusion injury owing to twisting and subsequent release of the MCT is the main pathophysiological cause of torsion . Previous studies have investigated various inflammatory mechanisms that could be involved in this process, such as mean platelet volume or cytokine expression . In the present study, white blood cell, neutrophil, and lymphocyte counts were all markedly higher in the torsion group than in the control group.…”

“…By contrast, the observed elevations of CA125 and the NLR might be caused by an inflammatory process. The presence of active pelvic inflammation among MCT patients with torsion is associated with an acute phase reaction . Ovarian ischemia–reperfusion injury owing to twisting and subsequent release of the MCT is the main pathophysiological cause of torsion .…”

“…In an experimental ovarian torsion study by Bakacak et al ., similar to our study in rats, hs‐CRP levels were examined during early period of torsion . In this study, hs‐CRP changes and histopathological changes were compared, and hs‐CRP increase in the torsion group was found to be statistically significant.…”

“…Therefore, several markers were investigated in diagnosis of ovarian torsion. There are many experimental animal and human studies such as ischemia-modified albümin (IMA), D-dimer and high sensitivity C-reactive protein are the reliable parameters [6][7][8] .…”
