Species of white-tailed forest rats hunted and traded, their conservation status and habitat characteristics, in North Sulawesi, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 22: 2778-2784. The tradition of hunting and trading white-tailed forest rats, especially in North Sulawesi, has been practiced for generations. This poses a threat to the existence of these animals in their natural habitat leading to the extinction of some hunted species. In the past, studies on white-tailed rats being hunted and traded on Sulawesi is still lacking. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to identify the species of white-tailed forest rats hunted and traded, their conservation status and habitat characteristics in North Sulawesi. This study was conducted in April to June 2018 in Minahasa and Bolaang Mongondow District, North Sulawesi. The survey methods used involved visiting hunters, recording and taking pictures of the species of rats being hunted and traded. All samples of white-tailed rats were identified in the Zoological Laboratory, Indonesian Institute of Sciences Cibinong Bogor, West Java. Furthermore, ascertaining the general characteristics of the habitat was carried out using a general survey in locations known as distribution areas in North Sulawesi. The identification of 125 individuals consists of 8 species of white-tailed forest rats from 7 genera, which are commonly hunted. They include Rattus xanthurus (Gray, 1867), Bunomy fratrorum (Thomas, 1896), Lenomys meyeri (Jentink, 1879), Paruromys dominator (Thomas, 1921), Echiotrix leucura (Gray, 1879), Taeromys taerae (Sody, 1932), Maxomys hellwaldi (Jentink, 1879) and Maxomys musschenbrooki (Jentink, 1878). Four out of the eight species of white-tailed forest rats are protected species according to the IUCN Redlist. The white-tailed forest rats identified in this study, were caught in secondary forest and plantation, ranging from an altitude of 500 - 1.500 meters above sea level. Their main sources of feed include Areca catechu, Piper aduncum, Ficus spp., and Arenga piñnata.

Study on the nematode parasite species of Bunomys spp. from Mekongga Mountain, Southeast Sulawesi was conducted on deposited specimens in Museum Zoologicum Bogoriense, Zoology Division, Research Center of Biology-LIPI. Bunomys is endemic genus murine rodent in Sulawesi. This study aims to determine the types of nematodes in endemic Muridae rodent, the results of which can help the government in developing disease management plans. The nematodes identified in this study were Subulura andersoni (host: B. andrewsi), Syphacia rifaii (host: B. chrysocomus), Cyclodostomum purvisi (host: B. penitus), Heterakis spumosa (host: B. chrysocomus). Except for Sy. muris, all of the recorded nematodes have worldwide distribution. Morphology and taxonomy of nematodes will be discussed in this paper

Communities that vary in the richness of closely related species but occupy similar environments provide a powerful system to investigate how trait variation and species richness interact to fill ecological space. In tropical mountain habitats on the island of Sulawesi, Indonesia, murine rodent community richness ranges from 7 to 23 species. We measured 17 morphological, ecological, and isotopic traits to test for the expansion or packing of community ecospace among nine murine communities. Traits related to cranial shape (but not jaw shape), trophic level, and body shape showed the strongest evidence of expansion. Locomotion emerged as a fundamental axis of ecological variation, expanding ecospace and enabling niche packing of other traits such as diet and body size. Though trait divergence often explains functional diversity in island communities, we found that phylogenetic diversity facilitates community ecospace expansion in some conserved traits such as cranial shape, while more labile traits are overdispersed both within and between island clades. Our results evoke competition, trait evolvability, and the independent evolutionary trajectories of each of Sulawesi's murine clades as central to generating the exceptional functional diversity and species richness in this insular radiation. Komunitas-komunitas dengan variasi kekayaan spesies berkerabatan dekat tetapi menempati lingkungan yang serupa menyediakan sistem yang kuat untuk menyelidiki bagaimana variasi sifat dan kekayaan spesies berinteraksi untuk mengisi ruang ekologi. Kami mengukur 17 karakter morfologi, ekologi, dan sifat isotop untuk menguji perluasan atau pengemasan volume ruang ekologi komunitas di antara sembilan komunitas hewan pengerat yang terdiri dari 7 hingga 23 spesies di pulau Sulawesi. Sifat-sifat yang berhubungan dengan bentuk tengkorak (tetapi tidak bentuk rahang), tingkat trofik, dan bentuk tubuh menunjukkan bukti ekspansi yang kuat. Sistem penggerak muncul sebagai sumbu fundamental dari variasi ekologi, mengembangkan ruang ekologi, dan memungkinkan pengemasan relung pada sifat lain seperti makanan dan ukuran tubuh.
