High-Performance and Functional Fiber Materials—A Review of Properties, Scanning Electron Microscopy SEM and Electron Dispersive Spectroscopy EDS

Abstract: This review supports an overview of selected high-performance fibers and functional fiber materials. A review of several properties and applications is given. For fiber materials and fabrics, microscopic images taken by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) are presented. As well as this, electron dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) is performed on the fiber materials and an overview of EDS spectra is presented. The features of SEM images and EDS spectra are discussed, especially with the aim of supporting people who a… Show more

“…The above arguments might explain the observed dark areas from the polyhedron γ-Bi 2 O 3 crystals. A similar shadowing effect that caused a dark image in the element mapping has been reported by Mahltig et al and Lang et al 31,32 A low-magnification TEM image of B1 is shown in Fig. 5(a).…”

“…By this EDS method the detection of the chemical element hydrogen is principally not possible [14]. The sensitivity of this method for the element nitrogen is low, so in most fiber analysis nitrogen is not clearly detected [15,16]. Optical properties and phosphorescence effects are determined by illumination in an illumination chamber Verivide using standard light D65.…”

“…SEM is a microscopy technique utilized for characterizing and analyzing the microstructure of samples, generating high-resolution three-dimensional images that provide insights into the material's chemical composition. This technique enables the identi cation of the sample's structure, morphology, chemical elements, and surface topography (Mahltig et al, 2022).…”
